Interviewed by Year Up!

This afternoon Jeremiah Johnson and Kadesh Hampleton, two students participating in the Year Up program, came to On the Leesh to interview me for their class. Year Up is a year long training and education program that provides urban students (ages 18-24) with a unique combination of professional writing, technical, and professional skills development courses, college credits, and corporate apprenticeships. As part of one of their projects, they had to interview someone about his/her job and organization, and then present their findings in a formal Powerpoint presentation in January. I was very honored to be chosen.

From the moment that Jeremiah first contacted me, I was blown away by both his and Kadesh’s professionalism and respectfulness. I have met few 21 and 18 year olds who have been so well put together and charming. Jeremiah and Kadesh are two students in the IT side of Year Up. We spoke for about an hour on questions ranging from: “Why did I start On the Leesh?” “What advice would I give someone starting out?” and “Is it hard to change between Producer, Editor and Director?” to “How did I come up with the name of the company?” and “How do you get your company through hard times?”

Some of these questions were new to me and really made me think. There are typical questions that people will ask me in an interview, so I have stock answers that I give. However, I have to admit, when they asked me “What would you be doing if you weren’t working for On the Leesh?” I had to think. What would I be doing? I would like to say I would be doing something noble, like working in Holistic Medicine, helping the masses by giving back. But I’d likely be doing book keeping or data entry somewhere counting the days til vacation.

Jeremiah and Kadesh are going to present their power-point presentation next Tuesday. Check back to see how it goes!
