Milestone Auditions

Posted by Fetch Wed, 28 Jan 2009 20:44:00 GMT

We’ve begun auditioning for the 2 characters in the short comedy, “Milestone.” Auditions are always so exciting because you (hopefully) get to see varied takes on the words on the page. You get to see the nuances that an actor puts on the script to make it truly their own. It’s also interesting to see how many actors make similar choices. It makes the person who makes a different choice really stand out. That said, you’d never want to make a ridiculous choice simply because you figure nobody else will make it as well – that would likely be foolhardy. But it does make me think that as actors, we always have to go deeper than what’s simply written on the page. What’s underneath the most obvious choice? Or rather, what’s the reason for the most obvious choice? Answer that and you might have the uniqueness you’re looking for.

We were lucky that everyone came in prepared and with a great sense of play! What a difference it makes when an actor comes in prepared. When you have an actor who’s prepared the sides well, you’re taken on a ride into the story with them. But if the actor isn’t prepared, you end up going on this puttered stop and start with them – into the character, then back into the page and so on…

Scripts are meant to be heard, not read, so hearing everything allowed was so exciting! We have no cast yet, but stay tuned… we’re getting there!

The SEXually's New Years Bender: a juiced journal (of sorts).

Posted by Fetch Thu, 22 Jan 2009 15:03:00 GMT

What’s today’s date? Well, not that it matters.

Dec. 31st- 10 pm, Got blown by the bartender at Terminal 5. We opened the show that night. Johnny showed up, which was nice, seeing that he is the guitar player and all. And he was good. No, he was great! It was our first gig in the states and I think ‘07 is going to be a great year for us.

What’s that? ‘09? Really? F—-ing, hell!

Ok. New resolution for me and the band. We are going to get this whole time thing under control. Basically, I think we’re still celebrating our U.K. hit from ‘06.

Jan. 1st, 1:30 a.m. A fresh supply of Barry White rolled into the green room. Enough to kill a horse… if horses did blow. 1:30 pm. We finally got the bathroom door unlocked and got most of our goods back from Johnnie. Happy New Year! 4:30 pm. Everyone was feeling kind of tired, so we headed to an after after after party in the Bowery, where we mixed our cocaine with Ridilin and espresso infused tequila. There was a bird there that said she could love me forever. Turns out that I could only love her for forty-five minutes.

We were supposed to play some corporate funded gig, set up by our super lawyer, Evil-in Hard(en). When we got there, the big boss of the corporate crap show, came to great us. His daughter lived in London when we were on the top of the pops. She was a big fan. I think at one point I may have- never mind. Anyway, Johnnie tossed his cookies into the big boss’s lap and when the wanker demanded an apology, Johnnie threw up on him again. Then he started crying (Johnnie cries a lot). So, Julian’s laughing, right. And the corporate asshole got all mad and start yelling at us. Then Julian punched one of them right in his dick. Not in his face. In his man parts. Needless to say, Evil-in was not pleased. Jane helped clean the vomit. Not that any of it mattered, because Dylan didn’t show up- something about “not pandering to the corporate overlords-” so we couldn’t have played anyway.

Jan. 2nd, 2:30 am. Still reeling from our choice of drugs on the 1st (see 4:30pm), we sat in a shit hole of pub in the East Village. I think it was KGB bar. Dylan was not happy! He wouldn’t shut up about the KGB still existing and that the pub, with pictures of Marx on the wall was evidence. Julian left briefly and came back with a handful of Ambian. Did you know that if you take Ambain and DON’T go to sleep, it acts very much like a hallucinogen? Which brings us too…

Jan. 2nd, 12:15 pm. I don’t know exactly how we ended up in the Hamptons, but I didn’t mind, as we ended up finding a bed to crash in. I found myself with a moderately attractive trust-fund-floozy, who had an ample bosom and was quite adept with her mouth, if you know what I mean, which led me to assume she was of the Jewish persuasion (it’s a stereo type, yes, but having been in NY for a few months now, I’m finding it to be quite true).

I rather like the ocean in the winter. It’s empty and cold, very much like my mother’s heart.

Jan 4th 11:12 pm We capped our New Years Celebration by having dinner at our lawyer’s house. She was not too happy about it when she got there. Jane made it all better by putting a Zannie in Evil-in’s water.

Jan 5th 8:30 am. And we all laid down for a long winter’s nap. When we came out of our slumber it seemed a week or two later…

Happy New Year! Look for more sexcapades and rude behavior from the band in ‘09!

Denim is Headed to Colorado

Posted by Fetch Tue, 20 Jan 2009 18:48:00 GMT

Hot off the presses (or the internet equivalent of “the presses”), Jeff Lycett’s short comedy, DENIM has been accepted to The Durango Independent Film Festival – better known as DIFF.

Some of you OTL followers may remember that this is not the first film from On the Leesh to be shown in Durango. WHAT ARE THE ODDS?, written by “The Office” writer, Justin Sptizer was shown in this popular film festival. Among all of the festivals that OTL attended with WHAT ARE THE ODDS?, Durango was absolutely one of our favorites. The town really comes out for this fest and the producers of DIFF really make the filmmakers feel welcomed and taken care of.

Be sure to check out this festival’s website at: www.durangofilmfestival.com

Thanks Durango!!

A Word from the Writer on The SEXually

Posted by Fetch Tue, 20 Jan 2009 18:44:00 GMT

I’m quite proud of my partnership with ontheleesh productions. In ‘08 we created and successfully launched a webseries (a first for me. I think it’s their hundredth series or something.) Despite some general hygiene issues among the staff, they are an absolute pleasure to work with. Creative, insightful, efficient, and fun, they get the job done and have allowed me the opportunity to wear pink underwear on camera as often as I choose. Well, once, but still.

The aforementioned webseries, the SEXually, is funny and I implore (which is old English for “I’m begging you”) to watch it. The concept and shooting style allow for us to have some very talented actors, myself excluded, to flourish and be funny as sh-t! Where we end up, know one knows, but we sure are going to have fun getting there.

In ‘09 we plan on taking the band to group therapy, where we remind everyone, “if it happens in the woods, it’s not gay.” Soon after that, the boys will take some time off to abuse recreational drugs, play RockBand, frustrate their super lawyer (every episode), and attempt to create an album. Stay tuned!

Co-creator of the SEXually, Jeff Lycett (a.k.a. Juice)

Follow Up On Year Up

Posted by Fetch Wed, 14 Jan 2009 17:41:00 GMT

Yesterday I went to the presentations at Year Up. It’s always a bit strange to hear what someone may say about your company. But I have never heard someone present my company. Even though the presentation was for a class, I was very impressed with Jeremiah and Kadesh’s presentation. They did a very nice job on the presentation especially considering I was the only CEO who showed up for their respective presentation. So Jeremiah and Kadesh had to present to their classmates, teacher, and subject.

I wasn’t surprised that they handled it with the upmost professionalism. I wish them both the best on their continued growth in this industry, and I hope to have a continued involvement with this tremendous organization.

Super Styling Sessions Strikes Again!

Posted by Fetch Tue, 13 Jan 2009 15:23:00 GMT

On December 29th and 30th, I ventured to Sue Zecco’s house in Oakham, Mass. It’s been three weeks since we postponed our first shoot due to the terrible ice storm. I thought that everything would be back to normal. Gosh it had bee three weeks and she doesn’t live off the grid in Alaska somewhere. I was wrong. Trees and branches were still down along the streets from Worcester to Oakham. I have never seen anything like it. Sue had a tree fall down on the roof of her shop, and is still in repairs. All in all they were without power for 10 days. It was 2008 right? Not 1908? Geesh. I don’t mean to knock my homeland, but Come On People!

With heat renewed, we rose above and shot 8 videos in two days. Since Jay tore his rotator cuff a few weeks prior, Sue had to do all the heavy lifting herself. And boy, did she rise to the occasion. We did one video illustrating how to work with difficult dogs, and she wrestled with a miniature poodle that was out for blood. This woman is my hero! Jay is no joke either. He clipped Sue’s dog Trace, a Standard Poodle who is only slightly smaller than my boy – Atticus (Kong), while his arm was on fire. The clip lasted two hours, and he never complained once. I, on the other hand, was getting sore just standing around. Hero I am not. Both Sue and Jay gave me even more respect for their craft.

All in all – we shoot 7 new Super Styling Sessions videos – The German Trim (for Poodles), The “Doodle,” Difficult but not Impossible Pet Grooming (featuring our first Cat!), The Airedale, Hand Strip and Carding Techniques (part of the technical series), Competition Grooming and How to Open Your Own Business.

In addition to these seven, we also shot one video for Wahl Clipper Corporation – The Fundamentals and Essentials of Tech Grooming. This DVD will be sent out with all of Wahl’s Clippers as an instructional guide on how to groom a pet. It was an amazing opportunity for us, and I’m very grateful to Jay and Sue for this break.

Check back soon to learn more about how the editing process. I’ll be up to my neck in dogs for the next couple of months! A great place to be.

Interviewed by Year Up!

Posted by Fetch Fri, 09 Jan 2009 15:30:00 GMT

This afternoon Jeremiah Johnson and Kadesh Hampleton, two students participating in the Year Up program, came to On the Leesh to interview me for their class. Year Up is a year long training and education program that provides urban students (ages 18-24) with a unique combination of professional writing, technical, and professional skills development courses, college credits, and corporate apprenticeships. As part of one of their projects, they had to interview someone about his/her job and organization, and then present their findings in a formal Powerpoint presentation in January. I was very honored to be chosen.

From the moment that Jeremiah first contacted me, I was blown away by both his and Kadesh’s professionalism and respectfulness. I have met few 21 and 18 year olds who have been so well put together and charming. Jeremiah and Kadesh are two students in the IT side of Year Up. We spoke for about an hour on questions ranging from: “Why did I start On the Leesh?” “What advice would I give someone starting out?” and “Is it hard to change between Producer, Editor and Director?” to “How did I come up with the name of the company?” and “How do you get your company through hard times?”

Some of these questions were new to me and really made me think. There are typical questions that people will ask me in an interview, so I have stock answers that I give. However, I have to admit, when they asked me “What would you be doing if you weren’t working for On the Leesh?” I had to think. What would I be doing? I would like to say I would be doing something noble, like working in Holistic Medicine, helping the masses by giving back. But I’d likely be doing book keeping or data entry somewhere counting the days til vacation.

Jeremiah and Kadesh are going to present their power-point presentation next Tuesday. Check back to see how it goes!

What I learned about Terriers

Posted by Fetch Thu, 08 Jan 2009 16:22:00 GMT

Um…did you know that Terriers are supposed to be hand-stripped? Meaning that, by hand, you pull out their hair instead of using a clipper or scissors. Meaning, you sit for hours and pull the hair out of a dog, and it keeps coming and coming. And if you don’t hand-strip, the hair changes texture and even color?! And the dogs don’t mind it (some may not love it – but it’s not painful).

The hair is dead and it’s got to go. Apparently – these hairs will grow to a hard wire point, but the middle of the shaft is hollow and it has a very soft base, allowing it to be pulled out easily. They just sit there as Sue pulls away creating a huge mountain that would send my sister into an allergic coma. I, luckily, am not allergic to any animal – which is good cause there are only a few foods that I can be friends with.

Anyway, back to Terriers. So this hand-stripping has to be done with a dirty coat. And if the coat isn’t dirty enough, the groomer adds chalk to it. CHALK! To make it dirty. So….more dust in the air. More bad news for allergy sufferers. The goal of hand-stripping is that you pull the hair out and allow the dog’s true wiry coat to grow in properly.

You can hand-strip any part of the dog’s coat although there are certain parts of the coat that are more sensitive than others. Think about it – clearly the belly and the face. For sure, I’d have a problem if Sue came at me with a comb and said she was going to strip my hair. Sue, being a gentler soul, has decided that for most pets, she will do a mixture of the stripping and clipping.

These aren’t competition dogs. She wants the dog to be as close to breed standard as possible, but she doesn’t want to put the dog or herself through any unnecessary pain. So, she uses scissors on the tail and on certain dogs that are more sensitive.

Can you imagine? I thought waxing was rough!

Sue has had carpal tunnel surgery on both wrists.
