How would New Yorkers react to seeing themselves parodied on stage? Would they sympathize with Becky, struggling to make it as a waitress cum actress cum guru? Would they laugh? Would they get it?</p> <p>They did.</p> <p><img src=" http://ontheleesh.com/img/blog/hmhm_juliemono1.jpg"></p> <p><img src=" http://ontheleesh.com/img/blog/hmhm_livingrm1.jpg"></p> <p><img src=" http://ontheleesh.com/img/blog/hmhm_yoga1.jpg"></p> <p>The audience cracked up. They especially responded to the rose-drenched, Sting-backed yoga, Sarah and Ben&#8217;s Buffy/Spike banter, Claire confronting Nevin and he telling her to just shut up. The woman sitting in front of me had a particularly crackling laugh and I heard her gasp distinctly when Julie, as Beckie, broke into tears crying &#8220;she sucks, she sucks, Beckie sucks…&#8221;</p> <p>Ah theatre.</p> <p>In brand-spanking new news (is old news still news?), On the Leesh is beginning to workshop playwright Daria Polatin&#8217;s new full-length screenplay entitled Happen to Know.
